Useful resources that DIY shared with Te Mana Whakaatu:

  • NeedHelpNow.ca - Practical support and information for young people who have experienced TFSV.

  • RightToBe.org – Right to Be creates resources and shares information to end harassment and discrimination. A relevant guide is How to use social media safely, for which they have created user-friendly information on different platforms’ reporting and privacy tools. For example, their Instagram Safety Guide.

  • TechSafety.ca - Tech Safety Canada is a project of Women’s Shelters Canada focused on sharing resources to support people with their experiences of TGSV.

  • DigitalFirstAid.org - The Digital First Aid Kit is a free resource to help rapid responders, digital security trainers, and tech-savvy activists to better protect themselves and the communities they support against the most common types of digital emergencies.

  • MediaSmarts.ca - MediaSmarts has been developing digital media literacy programs and resources for Canadian homes, schools, and communities since 1996.

  • KidsHelpPhone.ca - Kids Help Phone is a Canadian 24/7 e-mental health service that offers free, multilingual, and confidential support to help all young people. They also offer a mental health website with over 400 resources including videos, games and tools to help young people learn more about their well-being.

  • ProjectArachnid.ca Project Arachnid is an international collaboration to combat the proliferation of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The Classification Office contributes to Project Arachnid but supporting the efforts to classify CSAM.

  • A Guide for Trusted Adults: Practical Tips and Tools for Supporting Girls and Young Women Navigating Life Online

  • Native-Land.ca While not directly related to TGSV, DIY also shared the Native Land map. This is a living document informed by the contributions of Indigenous communities, Indigenous knowledge holders and their stories.

Finally, we regularly host presentations on extremism ad violence prevention as part of our Speaker Series. Earlier this year we shared insights from our recent research, Online Misogyny and Violent Extremism: Understanding the Landscape. In 2025 we’ll be hearing from experts on video games and extremism, artificial intelligence and extremism, and our own kōrero with young people about extremely harmful online content.
